Max Swietnicki - Mechanics Design Portfolio
Background
For over 10 years, I have been designing and developing games in a variety of mediums. Even before earning my Bachelor’s degree in Emerging Media Technology, I was working on multiple self-started projects, creating game mods, participating in game jams, and growing my design and development skills. In 2021 my (co-designed) card game Empyre was signed for publication, and in 2023 I released my mod The Drifter which earned success on the Steam workshop. Later in 2024, I released solo developed title Color Cannon for Android. Though mechanics design on these projects is the focus of this portfolio - I consider myself a generalist with foundational skills in all disciplines of game design, game development and graphic design, with secondary skills in image and audio editing.
Mechanics Design Approach
My approach to Mechanics Design involves creating mechanics that empower players to express themselves creatively and develop unique approaches to gameplay. I also enjoy crafting mechanics that are humorous, surprising, or even shocking—embracing playful themes and unexpected elements. I also have experience designing many mechanics which involve crafting synergies - many smaller elements (cards, upgrades) which combine in unique ways.
